Exciting Winnemac Park Upgrades Resuming This Summer: New Turf, Drainage, and More

Winnemac Park is set to receive a fantastic makeover this summer, bringing much-needed upgrades that will benefit the entire Lincoln Square community. After a brief pause to finalize plans, construction is resuming on the park’s sports fields, promising a host of improvements designed to enhance usability, safety, and overall enjoyment. Already, new artificial turf infields, benches, backstops, batting cages, scoreboards, bleachers, and sidewalks have been installed, giving the park a fresh and modern atmosphere.

One of the key challenges addressed by this project is the park’s frequent flooding and muddy conditions, which have made the baseball and soccer fields difficult to use after rain for over a decade. Thanks to new grading and advanced stormwater drainage systems, these fields will now drain efficiently, allowing for quicker recovery after wet weather and more consistent playtime for local teams, including Amundsen High School’s baseball squads.

The $2 million investment, funded through the now-expired Western Avenue (North) Tax Increment Financing district, ensures that these upgrades are both high-quality and sustainable. Additional landscaping will beautify the park, creating an inviting space for families, athletes, and community events alike.

Residents can look forward to the grand reopening of Winnemac Park’s revitalized fields by late summer 2025. This project not only improves the park’s functionality but also strengthens Lincoln Square’s reputation as a vibrant, active neighborhood with top-notch recreational amenities. Whether you’re a sports fan, a parent, or a local resident, the new Winnemac Park promises to be a wonderful place to gather, play, and enjoy the outdoors for years to come.
